WTF?

Posted at 10:50pm on Thursday, October 30th, 2008 by

Excuse my French, but what on earth is going on with this Brand/Ross (Bross?) story?

It was pre-recorded.  Thats “Pre”… “Recorded”… Both of them are famous for their tendency to improvise to a ludicrous and often offensive conclusion; leaving them on their own together in a radio studio late at night was bound to generate a whole host of unbroadcastable material.  Surely that’s why it wasn’t live in the first place?

What a bunch of arse.

Yet more encroachments planned – this time it looks like we’ll need to present a passport to buy a cell phone. I mean really.

Everyone’s talking ’bout him

Posted at 9:10pm on Sunday, October 19th, 2008 by

Everywhere you go Robert Peston has been the rising star of this recent financial crisis; from Joe Strummer on the Today Programme through to the Twitterati. To be honest it’s not that surprising that the SFO have been asked to investigate his “scoops”.

Very sad news

Posted at 8:59pm on Sunday, October 12th, 2008 by

James Forrester, Gloucester and England, has been forced to retire due to the injury sustained last year. Both his club and his country will miss him, he was a genuine match changer. Harsh; very harsh.

Regular expressions

Posted at 7:47pm on Saturday, October 11th, 2008 by

There is a saying that if you decide to solve a problem with regular expressions what you end up with is two problems. To find, then, that Django’s URL dispatch is based entirely on those self same regexes leaves me a little grumpy; they are a right bugger to write and debug, and trying to do anything fancy with them is always a real pain.

And despite how simple I thought my first Django app was, it took me exactly 2 days to find that I was bogged down in regular expressions rather than building features.  Gah.

Pollution on the underground

Fascinating critique of the current Tube map…

Map

There seems to be an assumption made by many people that all a designer has to do is create a map using the same sorts of rules that Henry Beck did 75 years ago, and a design masterpiece will magically appear. This is not remotely true…

Homer tries to vote for Obama.  Thing is, we’ve all read enough about Diebold to know this is true, so why’s it in the Simpsons?
