SqueezeCenter 7.2

Posted at 9:50pm on Friday, September 5th, 2008 by

Just upgraded to SqueezeCenter 7.2 at home (having previously been on the 6.x Debian package).  The improvements are fantastic, except… In Firefox 2 on Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) my CPU got pegged for a couple of seconds every time a new page loaded, making the interface unusably slow.

I’ve fixed it by disabling the “Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.5″ FireFox Add-on, but I can’t find much information about what that extension does and what I’m missing by disabling it. Or why on earth it breaks it in the first place.

Now it’s time for a Boom ;)

I too am heading down the Squeezebox (and Boom) route having visited winjer’s setup. Does the client software run ok on a standard Eee 701 do we know?

We do, and “just about” is the answer. I’m rather tempted by the spiffy remote control though, thereby removing the need for any computer at all…

Yes, fair comment. Freyja is very fond of remote controls mind you, so perhaps I could hide in the soon-to-be-constructed shed with my Eee and playlist away remotely :)

So… I was dubious about the Ubuntu modifications being the cause (seemed rather unlikely). Turns out it’s Chris Pederick’s web developer tool bar that causes it. Which is a shame, because unlike Firebug you can’t turn that off on a per site basis. Time, instead, for the Firefox Profile Manager.
