So. For the last 2 summers Test Matches played in England have started at 10.30 each morning, rather than 11.00 as they always have. In addition last summer, for the first time, play was stopped unceremoniously at 18.00, regardless of the state of the match or the day’s play. Throughout the summer of complaints about both the early start and the unnatural (and unexpected) end to each day’s play the ECB told us that this was an ‘improvement’, ‘within the rules’ and ‘nothing to do with television’ (despite Channel 4’s obvious reluctance to let cricket impact the 18.00 to 19.00 Hollyoaks/Simpsons bonanza hour).

Lo! and behold, cricket moves to Sky and the match starts at 11.00 again. You can bet your bottom dollar that we won’t be finishing on the dot of 18.00 either. There are some benefits to Sky’s coverage already. Whether or not that makes up for the loss of Richie Benaud is another matter.

How *do* we tell people 10,000 years from now not to drill or dig somewhere, because it’s where we hid our radioactive waste and it can still kill them? Fascinating.

Not as daft as it sounds… Ryan Carson offers advice for something we all seem to be aiming for at the moment. I have to say that it reminds me very strongly of the rather good Simply Brilliant, a book that kickstarted the process of changing me from slack and disorganised to calmly efficient (most of the time).

I wonder if we could get one of these slapped on the nutters that spend all summer in the centre of York?

So. I posted Icon Buffet a while ago. If you’re on an even tighter budget (i.e. only free will do) you could do an awful lot worse than the Silk Icons. Free and comprehensive. Used an awful lot of places, but hey, that’s Web 2.0 chic, no?

Well. That was some of the most exciting running rugby I’ve ever seen. Shame we lost. Shame Ryan saw fit to substitute the most exciting players of the match for the last 10 minutes too. I have a feeling we would have lost anyway, but still… Part of me thinks the only chance was to leave the yonugsters on - the substitutions were essentially admitting defeat.

Apart from the ECC final in a couple of weeks that’s the end of my rugby for the season. Hum. Looks like we’ll have made it back into the European top flight and might have a little silverware to show for it as well, though, so no complaints. With the side that we’ve got building if the contracts for the youngsters can all be sorted out it looks like 2006/7 will be a good year for the Cherry and Whites.

We’re already in next year’s Heineken Cup, but to make it through to the play offs, beating Wasps along the way would be marvellous…
