I just dropped the glass plate from inside my microwave. It broke. I spent a good 15 minutes swearing and complaining that now I was going to have to buy a new microwave until I found Signals UK - purveyor of spare parts for domestic appliances. Which is marvellous. In an age of immediate disposal it’s nice to think that a perfectly operational microwave doesn’t have to be chucked for the want of a plate.

Micro publishing has been floating around for a while now as a concept. The idea that publishers are nearly able to print single copies of out of print books seems to me to be marvellous (see this article from the Economist for a brief discussion). All we needed was a way to do it ourselves as well. First we had the iPhoto books and now we have Blurb. Vanity publishing in the extreme, possibly, but a fantastic idea.

Royal Bank of Scotland are deploying an Intranet using Zope. As the article says, a bank adopting an Open Source technology is going to do no harm at all…

I’ve posted a fair amount about the tube map before - it seems to be a British (and even more so a London) obsession to subvert it as often and as interestingly as possible… This one I particularly like - pop music as the tube (full version can be found here). Think of a mixture of The Great Bear and Rock Family Trees. The comments are an absolute joy to read as well. Want a bunch of het up humourless bastards.
