This is the killer app for my dad

Until now Web2.0 has systematically failed to interest my dad. He’s in his 60s. What does he care about social software and AJAX and Ruby-on-rails? Today however, I read about something that he actually really really wants… Mozy - automated on-line backup.

Admittedly these aren’t the people that are going to deliver it in the future (trade the service for the right to send you marketing email? Those days are gone, surely?). It will of course be Google and Yahoo! in the not too distant future. But this application is serious. And important

It’s going to mean that people like my dad will no longer be scared about “going digital” with their music, their home movies and their photos. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - high bandwidth into the home and upstream storage that makes back up simple and someone else’s problem is the combination of services that will truly digitise people’s homes.
