How many punch cards does it take to store an MP3?

Younger readers may not remember that computers used to be programmed by punch card. Apparently it would take 40,960 cards to store a 3 minute mp3 and the reader would need a throughput of 228 cards/second to play it. Jesus. In context, my mum and dad, both early computer workers for the British government, met because dad ran the machines on which mum’s punch cards ran - it’s not that long ago…
