Email destroys the mind faster than marijuana

Doziness, lethargy and an inability to focus are classic characteristics of a spliffhead, but email users exhibited these particular symptoms to a “startling” degree

Ubiquity and repetition quickly turn sweets to ashes

One minute the new black, the next minute tag clouds are the new poo. They’re pretty and useful, but for God’s sake make sure you’ve got something to actually use them for.

Right then. I’m back

Posted at 9:45pm on Wednesday, April 20th, 2005

The death of stilton for nearly a fortnight caused me to question whether or not I actually wanted offmessage back at all. I’ve been posting here solidly for nearly 3 years and its sudden death was at first appalling and then actually rather liberating. As anyone who tries to keep it going for this long will no doubt say (particularly if they have a day job) it’s actually pretty hard work. I wasn’t really sure that I wanted to start again. Perhaps, I thought, this was the moment to let offmessage slip into the swirling void of dead sites; to sneak away into the darkness leaving a myriad of disappointed readers (well, 4, but you get the point).

But then I found this. It’s a belt buckle. That scrolls text. Upto 256 characters. Which will nicely fit “do you know the difference between a drumstick and a penis? no? do you fancy a picnic?” with a few characters to spare. My faith in the Internet and sense of purpose were suddenly both reinvigorated in one simple URL.

Holy Shit!

That was intense. stilton (our old host, which we’d been worrying about for a long time) finally bit the dust just weeks before our new machine was ready. Thanks to Doug for his insane efforts in getting the new box up and running and recovering everything. 10 days from total disk failure in a data centre we no longer had access to to a full recovery and implementation on a new box. Hire him. He’s good.

Is this what has come from winning the World Cup?

Posted at 12:43pm on Friday, April 1st, 2005

Around 200 [Rugby Union] players - almost half the players in the league - have been on the casualty list at some point this season

The game’s got harder and tougher in the last few years - I wonder if this has come from the higher profile the game is getting and competition for places to play International Rugby? Also, I was watching the Super 12 over the weekend and they’re a bunch of wusses compared to the European game - I guess the weather makes a difference there. Just please please don’t water the game down - cheerleaders and body armour are not needed!

IM viruses growing by 50% a month

Only good sense stopped me clicking the .pif link that turned up in my IM. Not so for many people I know - I guess people aren’t wary of IM in the same way they are of mail (yet…)
