Rise of the cunt

Posted at 12:49pm on Monday, January 31st, 2005

So - another Zeppotron conspiracy is about to hit our screens - long time star of the Internet firmament Nathan Barley finally makes it to telly (Friday 11th Feb, Channel 4, apparently).

The Zeppotron stable has turned out some of the best online comedy for years (TV Go Home and Unnovations were staples while they were being updated) but the move to TV has never been that successful (the Unnovations TV show and The People’s Book of Records were unmitigated shit in my opinion). Given the uncompromising nature of their comedy on the web it’s easy to see why it doesn’t translate to the telly - you simply can’t get away with that type of thing on national broadcast television. So, will Nathan Barley make it across? Not a chance if you’re a fan of his original incarnation, but the involvement of Chris Morris means that it’ll probably still be fantastic.

Jailed for using a non-standard browser. The same story as reported by the BBC is pretty frightening. This will either get very messy for BT or it will disappear completely. Mmm. I wonder which it will be?

Holy Mother of God

Would this be allowed in the UK? Sounds implausible, but very scary…

Weyco Inc., a health benefits administrator based in Okemos, Mich., adopted a policy Jan. 1 that allows employees to be fired if they smoke, even if the smoking happens after business hours or at home. Company founder Howard Weyers has said the anti-smoking rule was designed to shield the firm from high health care costs. “I don’t want to pay for the results of smoking,” he said.
