The Devil’s dictionary

Posted at 5:06pm on Friday, August 27th, 2004

Written in 1911 (and so possibly offensive in places) it’s amazing what holds true today…

UN-AMERICAN, adj.
    Wicked, intolerable, heathenish

Down boy!

Thanks to Antonia for this:

Chuck and Loretta, who have clearly found God and a wonderful tailor, take great pleasure in helping you find the East Bay property of your dreams, and offer for your consideration the details of this imposing residence at 117 Tuscany Way that boasts generous living space both indoors and out.

Can I draw your attention in particular to the detail in the garden in
picture 3, through the window to the right of the mantelpiece.

Advance Australia Fair…

Posted at 8:29am on Thursday, August 26th, 2004

Trust the Australians… Not happy enough with their global domination of sport, they’ve frigged the Olympic Medal table to show they’re better than we think they are…

Matt and Trey are back. For some reason I’ve always hated Thunderbirds and all their Gerry Anderson ilk. Somehow I think these puppets may be more entertaining…

Now that’s initiative

Posted at 8:44am on Wednesday, August 25th, 2004

“About a year ago I hired a developer in India to do my job. I pay him $12,000 out of the $67,000 I get. He’s happy to have the work. I’m happy that I have to work only 90 minutes a day just supervising the code. My employer thinks I’m telecommuting. Now I’m considering getting a second job and doing the same thing.”

Edit: Doug tells me I’ve been trolled… I must admit I thought that was probably the case, but it was such a nice idea… Laziness has to be the ultimate goal…

Further edit: And then I find this article from Wired about outsourcing currency generation in online games… Another troll? I’m less inclined to think so. Someone (monoman?) must be researching the impact of these virtual worlds…. Can anyone point me to a good link?

Tetris 1D

It’s always nice to see a new twist on an old classic. (On a side note, I really really want one of these).

EROEI

George Monbiot tells it like it hopefully isn’t. For those who thought eco-housing was only for Channel 4 make-over shows….

Edit: And then I come across this article at the BBC. It’s easy to paint a very negative picture….
