Something morbid for halloween

Posted at 3:46pm on Friday, October 31st, 2003

What are the odds of dying in a particular way?

(Also, following from previous lottery posts… The odds of matching 5 numbers are 1 in 55,492 (which this week was worth a measly 1,143). The odds of being killed by lightning at any time in your life is 1 in 71,601. I wouldn’t bet a pound a week on that, would you?)

Ah - Google

Posted at 2:56pm on Friday, October 31st, 2003

All hail the power of the google cache… Enabled my vanity to recover at least some of the entries from the last 6 weeks. And yes - I do understand how sad that makes me!

Bush Says Attacks Are Reflection of U.S. Gains

Seriously. [You need to answer a couple of questions to read the whole article - you may not want to bother, it’ll only make your blood boil]

The more progress we make on the ground, the more free the Iraqis become, the more electricity is available, the more jobs are available, the more kids that are going to school, the more desperate these killers become, because they can’t stand the thought of a free society.

Microsoft preview Longhorn

Posted at 1:13pm on Tuesday, October 28th, 2003

The new version of Windows (expected around 2006) was previewed at the Microsoft Professional Developers Conference yesterday… Nothing too exciting, although I did like this snippet from the BBC report of the same story:

One of the key features of the new desktop is a smart panel that sits at the side of the screen and can be configured to hold essential information such as instant messenger buddy lists, time, links to favourite websites as well as news and stock tickers.

That sure is a new definition of “essential”

Bit slow to notice, but…

Posted at 9:42am on Tuesday, October 28th, 2003

Dave Gorman has a new show (and book) apparently about googlewhacking. Unfortunately everything that I can get to has sold out… Like with the Bill Bailey tour that I failed to notice until it was too late. Must learn to pay attention.
