Fair use of downloaded tracks?

Posted at 4:20am on Thursday, September 4th, 2003

More stuff about music downloads… This is an interesting one, and definitely worth a full read:

Does the owner of a legitimately bought and downloaded music track have the right to sell his or her copy? That’s a question one George Hotelling wants answered and has put a track bought off Apple’s iTunes Music Store up for auction on eBay to find out.

See George’s site here and the ebay auction here

Kick in the door, and then offer to pay for it…

Posted at 4:20am on Thursday, September 4th, 2003

As Eddie Izzard once said - a Liberal activist is someone who kicks in the doors of Parliament and then offers to pay for the damage…

It’s probably a bit late to be linking to www.waketheworld.org now, given that the war is (apparently) over, but I liked this particular poster so much I had to include it… BTW, anyone else hope that the UN tells Bush to get lost and clear up his own mess? No? Just me then? Ah well…

Bare Your Bum At Bush

Posted at 4:20am on Thursday, September 4th, 2003

Manic has another project on the go… This time he wants us to moon good ol’ Dubbya on his forthcoming visit to the UK. In doing so he hopes that we will “[…] collectively voice our displeasure at the impending arrival of George W Bush in the UK and in doing so either sour the experience or prevent his arrival.”

Sounds like a plan to me…

Ceci n’est pas une CD

Posted at 4:20am on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2003

Following up on the previous entries (and the image to your left - click it) EMI today have landed themselves in trouble in France for selling defective CDs.

A Nanterre court has ordered the music label to refund a woman who could not play her new Alain Souchon CD on her car CD player. Alternatively, EMI is to provide a full-working copy. The ruling applies to all people who have bought CDs which they cannot play on some CD players, computers and Walkmans.

Reactionary old toss

Posted at 4:20am on Monday, September 1st, 2003

The latest slew of worms and viruses has caused some jaded old hack at sfgate.com to decide that the Internet has had it

Maybe it’s time to admit that the whole Internet thing has been a grand experiment, but an experiment that’s failed — like hydrogen-filled airships, or the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, or Betamax. We’ll all find something else to do, and in many cases it will come as a great relief.

Like I said - what a reactionary bunch of old toss.
