Interesting article about the fact that Linux is now the trendy non-Microsoft OS, rather than a Mac. Makes sense really – many Macs were purchased purely to avoid having a Microsoft OS on the desktop. I know too many “consultants” (particularly in the media space) who have G4 desktops or Powerbooks primarily for the anti-MS ethos. Unfortunately for Apple the new G5 is gorgeous, is fast but is also really really expensive. You’re only going to buy one if your applications run on OS.X and you need the power. If all you care about is not running Microsoft Linux will do the job on a much cheaper machine. If what you really want is something to show your friends, maybe you’ll still buy a Mac.
